Raspberry Pi Pico Microcontroller Boards
- Overview: The Raspberry Pi Pico is a series of development boards powered by RP2040 or RP2350 microcontrollers. They are programmed via MicroPython, C, or C++ by flashing binaries to on-board flash memory. They do not run Linux.
- Generations:
- First Generation (RP2040): Includes Pico, Pico H, Pico W, and Pico WH.
- Second Generation (RP2350): Includes Pico 2, Pico 2 with headers, Pico 2 W, and Pico 2 W with headers.
- Variant Naming Conventions:
- W: Indicates wireless connectivity (Wi-Fi and Bluetooth).
- H / "with headers": Indicates the board comes with presoldered pin headers (otherwise, they are castellated modules).
- Key RP2040 Features:
- Dual-core M0+ processor (up to 133 MHz).
- 264 kB SRAM and 2 MB on-board flash.
- 8 Programmable I/O (PIO) state machines.
- Key RP2350 Features:
- Choice of dual-core Arm Cortex-M33 or dual-core Hazard3 RISC-V processors (up to 150 MHz).
- 520 kB SRAM and 4 MB on-board flash.
- 12 Programmable I/O (PIO) state machines.
- Shared Features across all models:
- 26 multi-function GPIO pins.
- USB 1.1 controller (device and host support).
- Drag-and-drop programming via USB mass storage.
- Peripheral interfaces: 2x SPI, 2x I2C, 2x UART, 3x 12-bit ADC, 16x PWM channels.
- Temperature sensor, low-power modes, and accurate timers.
- Wireless Capabilities (W models):
- Wi-Fi: 802.11n (2.4 GHz), WPA3 security, and Soft access point support.
- Bluetooth: 5.2 (supports BLE and Bluetooth Classic).
- Design Resources: Raspberry Pi provides open-access design files (Cadence Allegro), 3D STEP files, and Fritzing parts for hardware reproduction and enclosure design.
